i have a dewalt 1-1/4" x 17" power ship auger bit.

it has a hexagonal shaft.

i want to make a wooden "T" handle for it.

i assume i need some kind of metal fitting to insert into the handle to deal with the torque on the wooden handle. can you help?

Use a small Cable clamp.

You will need to make one or two [two is better] escutcheon plates one on the top and one on the bottom of the hole in the center of your handle. You can inlet them into the wood to prevent torque and pin them on, you can also rivet them together.

You might attach a clamp on the bit and see if you can actually turn it by hand into the wood you intend to drill.

Good luck.

Stephen
